What is pre-implant bone graft?

Structure that looks like a small screw, the dental implant therefore occupies a certain volume. Therefore, around the dental implant there must be enough bone for it to be firmly anchored in the jawbone. In some cases, it is not possible to proceed directly to the placement of a dental implant due to bone insufficiency. In some cases, very short and / or very narrow implants can be used to avoid bone grafts. Indeed, up to a certain point, bone reconstruction is avoidable by using special implants with reduced dimensions, beyond that, it is absolutely necessary to reconstruct.

This is why it is sometimes necessary to carry out a bone reconstruction in height and / or in thickness. The technical solutions applicable to alleviate the lack of bone are different depending on the nature of the lack, its acuity and also depending on its location. A pre-implant (before implant placement) or per-implant (at the same time as implant placement) bone grafting must then be performed.

When bone failure is severe, the reconstruction procedure should precede implant placement. A waiting period is then necessary before the placement of the implant. When bone failure is moderate, reconstruction and implant placement can be done at the same time.

Several types of materials can be used in bone reconstruction. The choice of one or the other material is made according to the surgical technique used. The preferences expressed by patients may also influence the choice.

The principle of the intervention is based on the elevation of the sinus membrane (thin mucous membrane lining the sinus). A biomaterial is arranged to support the membrane in the desired position. The result is the creation of a zone of spontaneous ossification, in which your own bone cells form the desired bone. The procedure allows the creation of sufficient bone volume.

DURATION OF TREATMENT: Its duration is 40 minutes on average and it may require hospitalization varying from 24 to 48 hours.
